Want, Need, Success

As I finally logged back into my blog, which just becomes increasingly more difficult to keep up with, I wanted to write a post about determination. Ironically enough, I had already started writing a similar post two weeks ago. I guess I really want to get this point across…

At some point you have to want more for yourself. At least, that’s what I keep trying to tell myself. At some point you have to stop settling for less than you deserve. At least, that sounds nice. I’m sure I’ve said this before in a post, but it’s something I think everyone needs to hear time and time again. What you accept, you get more of. If you let a person treat you poorly once, they will continue to treat you poorly because they now know they can get away with it. I guess at some point, after a person treats you a certain way for long enough, you start to believe that’s how you deserve to be treated. Then we get into this disgusting habit of self loathing. A habit of blaming ourselves for the way others are treating us. In the end, you have to want more for yourself. Then that want becomes a need. That need turns into determination. And that determination turns into success. What do you want? That’s a question many of us struggle with, yet we also expect others to know what they want — especially in relationships. Figure out what you want and then take it. I dare you.

This semester I am interning for CollegeFashionista.com. So far it has been an awesome experience! The site has branches at college campuses all around the country in order to highlight the street style of students everywhere. My job is to go around campus and take photographs of people who look cute on campus. If I see you on campus looking fashionable, watch out. I’m coming for you. Every Friday I’ll put up a link to my new post! Check out my post from last week here.

Happy Hot Monday

Happy Monday everyone! This heat is ridiculous and to the people who don’t have power: I can’t even imagine what you’re going through. Hopefully you headed of to work today to enjoy some air conditioning. Here’s a quote to keep you positive for the week!

“Things turn out best for the people who make the best out of the way things turn out.” – Art Linkletter

Think positive this week! If you’re stuck in a situation, think about how you can turn it around. I got into a situation this weekend where I had to spend all of money and therefore I didn’t have enough to pay to go to the beach. Instead of giving up I’ve gotten thrifty and found ways to make it happen. My biggest problem is accepting help. You can’t do it all on your own no matter how hard you try!  So beach here I come!

BET Awards: Recap

If you took the four hours out of your night to watch the BET Awards on Sunday, then you would know it was less of an awards show and more a “Beyonce, Jay-z, Kanye and Kim Kardashian Reaction Show.” Seriously, you would have thought there was no one else in the audience by the amount of times the screen switched to those four. I can’t complain too much because I love me some Beyonce. And I must admit when the Beyonce and Jay-z were up against each other Video of the Year and pretending to duke it out, I am sure everyone in the audience was green with envy.

When Jay and Kanye won, Kanye was surprisingly appropriate for the occasion. Maybe Kim is whipping him into shape. Chris Brown’s performance fell short for me and the outfit was just odd. Can’t deny his dance moves though. The Whitney tribute was beautiful and probably my favorite part of the entire show. Maze featuring Frankie Beverly was the best musical performance purely because you couldn’t help but dance and sing along.

Overall the show was pretty entertaining but I don’t know if I mean that in a good way or a bad way. Although it wasn’t the best awards show, next year they’re taking it up a notch and making the show a three day event in L.A. so I guess we have something to look forward to.

Shows That if You’re Not Already Watching..Hop on the Bandwagon

Sometimes being a TV junkie can get a little overwhelming, but there are some shows that are just must-sees.

Modern Family:

I would go as far to say that Modern Family is one of, if not the funniest show on television to date. Every one of the character’s has their own persona that makes you love them. It is the perfect show to watch with your family after dinner or grab a couple friends, sit back and laugh non-stop for 30 minutes.

Smash is a new show on NBC featuring Katherine McPhee, past American Idol participant. There isn’t anything quite like it on TV right now and you never know exactly where they are going to take it next. It is not a show about happy endings and fairy tales which is a nice break from the norm. McPhee is not the lead in the show, but instead she is the understudy. Can’t wait to find out what they are going to throw at us next!

Once Upon A Time:

Remember all of your favorite fairy tale characters? Well now they’re all in one show. Once Upon A Time, reminds you of the stories you were told as a child but puts a little twist on it. By no means is this a show for children. It keeps you on your toes with suspense and sucks you into the two juxtaposed worlds. The plot is unpredictable and keeps you coming back each week.

Happy watching!

Things Every Iphone Owner Should Know

It seems that there are many things that those of you who claim to be iphone users do not know. I am going to let you in on a few secrets.

1. If you do not close out of your applications, your battery will die faster. How do you do this? After unlocking your phone screen double click on your home button. You will see all of the applications you have opened. Press and hold down on one of the apps and then press the – button that pops up. This will close the app so it will stop using up your battery. The more you have open, the faster your battery will die.

2. Don’t you hate when you’re laying down and trying to text and the screen keeps turning? I’m happy to tell you there is a way to stop this from happening. Once again, double click on the home screen and then swipe until you get to the music play button. Next to the left arrow is a gray square with an arrow in a circle inside. If you press on that, it will lock your screen to stay vertical. Problem solved!

3. For this one I can’t even lie, I just found out about it. You can create a custom vibration for each contact in your phone. It’s a little more complicated than the other ones but don’t worry, I have pictures.

So first go to your settings

Then go to General

Then scroll down and go to Accessibility and turn Custom Vibrations on

After that is turned on, go back to General and then to Sounds

Press Vibration and then Create New Vibration. Then you will be able to record your own vibration and set it to sound for one of your contacts.

Now you can go teach your friends something new or try to impress that person in one of your classes you have been trying to talk to. Always happy to help!
